Questions that come up

Why does it ask for Screen Recording permission when I only want audio?

Because macOS will not hand one app the sound another app is playing by any other route. The only interface that exposes it is the screen capture API, so recording the other side of a call needs that permission even when no picture is captured. RecordCue does not capture your screen unless you choose Whole screen, A window or An area. Recording your own microphone alone works without it.

Does it start recording by itself?

No. Detection only puts the cue on screen. Every recording begins with a press, and if you ignore the cue it goes away and nothing is written.

Where do my recordings go?

To ~/Movies/RecordCue unless you change it, in a folder per service, named with the date and the call. Open folder in the RecordCue window takes you straight there. Transcripts are saved as plain text next to the recording they belong to.

What does the free version do?

Everything, for ten minutes at a time. Detection, the cue, every recording mode, transcription and filing are all in it. At eight minutes you get a notification, and at ten the recording stops on its own and is saved intact — you never lose what was recorded. Buying RecordCue Pro removes the limit and changes nothing else.

I bought it and it still says Buy.

Give it a moment and bring RecordCue to the front — it re-checks with the App Store whenever it becomes the active app. If it still has not caught up, open Settings and press Restore, which asks the App Store directly. You may be asked for your Apple Account password; that prompt comes from Apple, not from RecordCue.

I have a new Mac. Do I pay again?

No. The purchase belongs to your Apple Account, so any Mac signed in to it has it. If a fresh install does not pick it up on its own, Settings → Restore will.

Does my audio go anywhere?

No. Transcription uses the speech recognition built into macOS and is forced to run on the device. RecordCue makes no network requests of its own at all — there is no account, no server and no analytics. The only network traffic involved is the App Store’s, to sell it to you.

The cue does not appear for the app I use.

Open Settings → Detection. Around thirty services are built in, and the less common ones are switched off until you turn them on. If yours is not listed at all you can add a rule for it yourself, by application or by window title. If you tell us which one, we will add it.

Is it legal to record a call?

That depends on where you and the other people are. In many places you must tell them, and in some you must have their agreement. RecordCue does not know where anybody is and cannot answer this for you. Ask first — it is also simply the decent thing to do.
